Putting Images in 5:3 Ratio

Images uploaded to Gateway must be horizontally aligned and in 5:3 ratio. This means that for every 5

pixels of an image's width, there should be 3 pixels of an image's height.

Any images that are not horizontally aligned when uploaded into Gateway are automatically cropped by the system.

To avoid having images cropped improperly, be sure that they are in 5:3 ratio and horizontally aligned. This can be done using any image editing software, like Photoshop. For merchants who do not have access to Photoshop, free online image editing solutions like Pixlr works as well.

Below, we will walk you through the process of making these image ratio changes in both Photoshop and Pixlr

For more information about image requirements, see Image Requirements.

Creating a 5:3 ratio image in Photoshop

1. Open your image in Photoshop.

2. Go to the Image menu in the navigation bar and choose "Canvas Size..."

3. A popup box will appear. Set the unit type to "Pixels" and the tool will show you how many pixels your image is.

Using the following formula, you would enter the new pixel width (x): x= (5*height)/3. For example, if you have a 1000px square image, in this case, the height is 1000, so x= (5*1000)/3 or about 1666.

4. Once you have the correct pixel width, enter it into the popup box. Be sure that the Canvas extension color is set to "White" and the anchor is in the center of the grid.

5. The image should now have white space on either side and is 5:3 ratio. You can now save your image.

if you need to adjust dimension ratio for multiple images, see this tutorial on how to use batch actions.

Creating a 5:3 ratio image in Pixlr

1. Navigate to www.pixlr.com on your browser and click on the "Open Pixlr Editor" button.

2. If a popup box appears asking what you would like to do, click on "Open Image From Computer", otherwise open the image you want to edit using the File menu.

3. With the image open, click on the "Image" menu at the top navigation bar and choose "Canvas size..."

4. After the popup box appears, it will tell you how many pixels your image dimensions are.

Using the following formula, enter the new pixel width (x): x= (5*height)/3. For example, if you have a 1000px square image, in this case, the height is 1000, so x= (5*1000)/3 or about 1666.

5. Once you have the correct pixel width, enter it into the popup box. Be sure that the anchor is selected in the center of the grid.

6. The image should now have white space on either side and is 5:3 ratio. You can now save your image.
